Resin Cast Production Status

We are delighted to say that freight shipping for wave 2 will start next week! That means that wave 2 backers will receive their miniatures around early September!

Wave 3 production is going very fast as well, in the next update we will have actual production numbers for Wave 3 production.

Here are some pictures of the picked and packed rewards for wave 2.

In wave 2, we have two new dragons, Baastherox and Nixis. Here you can find our sculptor notes for assembly.

  • Baastherox

In general, this build is a breeze, because of the heft of some pieces we needed to use some thicker filling connections so be careful when removing them and as always remove separated from the piece and then detail with an exact blade. This dragon is otherwise very straightforward build, and a very rewarding, menacing dragon for your collection. Recommendations: When glueing the tail and support foot, make sure to have it on a steady flat surface so you get the same level from both pieces.    Overall Buildscore: 10/10

  • Nixis

This dragon is definitely a hard build, take your time with cleanup, and be very cautious when removing the supports from thin spikes to avoid cutting the spike in the process. be focused and clean any flash attached to the resin with the back of the blade. This dragon is truly magnificent once complete, so take your time and you will be rewarded with a true skeleton dragon that looks stunning and is completely unique.    Recommendations: I recommend pinning most pieces of this dragon when possible, especially the fingers of the wings since those have a small contact area and a pin will help you with the initial positioning. If you break any spikes in the cleanup process don't worry you can either make a simple repair with greenstuff or glue the broken spike back on later. Be patient! and you will get there.    Overall Build score: 5/10

*Take into consideration that the build score is how hard or easy it is to build the dragon, it does not represent the final dragon itself or how it looks.

Thank you so much for all your patience and support! We hope to see you at our Gen Con panels for later today or tomorrow, and we would love to see you in Dragonbond: Battles of Valerna!

GM Screen Art
almost 4 years ago – Tue, Jul 21, 2020 at 09:05:30 AM

Hello Dragonbonded,

As part of the digital stretch goals, you will also receive a PDF with a GM Screen. We have the final art featuring Kuxcoatl and Baastherox (the most popular votes on your Backerkit Survey).

In the following scene, we can see a ferocious Baastherox striking with his lightning breath to Kuxcoatl's illusion of himself. Kuxcoatl managed to deceive Baastherox, the Mightiest, and is now flying away after filling his curiosity for something found in the great wyrm's domain.

Art by Karlos Warlock.

This art was all made thanks to you, starting for the unlocked stretch goal, to the voting of the most popular dragons and lore behind it. Thank you for being part of shaping the rewards of this project!

PRODUCTION UPDATE WAVE 2

The team has completed QA, pick & packing for all full-body dragons and their alternate heads. Most extras (Busts, breath weapons, scenic bases, and battle scars) have been packed as well except for Baastherox's.

If everything runs smoothly, the pallet will be collected by our freight forwarder by the end of next week and fulfillment for wave 2 backers will start on August! We will let you know when we are about to lock addresses to backers in wave 2. In the meantime, you can still change it in your Backerkit survey, if needed.

Thanks so much for your patience and understanding with the production delay caused by Covid19; we are excited to move forward with fulfillment for the next waves.

PRODUCTION UPDATE WAVE 3

The team at Draco Forge has started production orders for backers in Wave 3. Here are the numbers of the full body dragons:

  • Aureus 28/81
  • Kuxcoatl 65/94
  • Sivax 69/69
  • Nixis 45/64
  • Baastherox 0/103
  • Rawraxxa 0/84
  • Dehrilya 0/103

The numbers above do not consider the busts, scenic bases, breath weapons, and battle scars but since the full body dragons are the most complex to manufacture, we are very happy to know that we have one third of the total full body dragons for wave 3 already manufactured. We are hoping to be able to catch up speed in the coming months.

Dragonbond: Battles of Valerna

Dragons of the Red Moon is part of a larger universe named Dragonbond. After many many months of designing this wargame and developing the lore of this setting, we are almost ready to release the first wave of models in a 3D printing campaign by Lair (our subsidiary company for 3D printing releases).

Take a look at this teaser video featuring Tyveria. Unleash your Legacy along with Nagasha Magnifex and Adrael, the Blood Emperor.

If you liked the video, consider subscribing to the Kickstarter pre-launch page (July 28th) here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lair3d/dragonbond-bov3d-wave1

Whether you have a 3D printer or not, you can join us in the massive beta playtesting for this game with the upcoming campaign and stay in touch for its plastic release next year.

Wave 2: production almost finished
almost 4 years ago – Wed, Jul 08, 2020 at 04:42:52 AM

Hello Dragonbonded!

We know it's been a while since the last update but we are back with good news.

As you know, Covid19 had also impacted our production plans since February. Draco Forge, our resin cast workshop, had to pause production during March to keep our team members safe and with good health.  The working schedule was re-organized for April through June; by enabling our team to work during the weekends, reinforcing protocols for social distancing and health measures at the workshop. Our team is  back to regular hours now; from Monday to Friday so we can expect to recover some of the lost time.

Thank you so much for your patience and understanding.

Today. we can confirm that all full body dragon miniatures for wave 2 have been produced! Our team is focusing on finishing the extras (busts, scenic bases, breath weapons, battle scars) for wave 2 and we will be ready to begin fulfillment for wave 2! We expect production to finish in a couple of weeks.

Here's the current status for Wave 2 orders:

Here are some pictures:

Nixis

Aureus, Kuxcoatl and Sivax have been picked & packed. Nixis and Baastherox QA, pick and packing is currently in progress.

Production for the extras is in progress and we expect to finish in a couple of weeks.

Baastherox and Aureus bust master prints ready to start production.

We will be back next week with more news about production status!

For backers in wave 1 who already received their resin copies or makers who 3D printed their STL files, remember you can tag us in social media to share pictures of your prints and paint jobs. We love seeing your Dragons of the Red Moon and we are happy to share your work with the community!

Take a look at some of the last ones. These are truly breathtaking:

So far, we have seen just 1 Rawraxxa 3D print... what do you say? Can you give Rawraxxa STL file some love?? Tag us in social media or use the hashtag #DragonsOfTheRedMoon or #Dragonbond so we can find them!

Finally, we want to finish this update with a teaser of our next Dragonbond project:

On July 28th of this year we will launch a full 3D-printable Wargame based in the setting of Dragonbond. The plastic release is scheduled until early 2021 once we are about to deliver the last resin orders of this campaign.

We will be sharing more about this project in upcoming updates but for now, mark your calendars with a Dragon doodle. July 28th.

Wave 2 Baastherox finished!
almost 4 years ago – Wed, May 27, 2020 at 08:22:25 PM

Hello Dragonbonded!

As you know, this pandemic has impacted production for the resin cast minis but our team committed to keep working during weekends following a strict procedure with sanitary instructions so we can still make progress. Everyone in the team is healthy. Speed of production has decreased significantly and we hope to be able to return to our previous work schedule in a couple of months but we are still making progress. Here are the details:

Wave 2 production

Baastherox Master Print was the last model arriving to Draco Forge before our internal quarantine started.

These past weekend, the team finished producing all Baastherox dragons needed for wave 2.

Baastherox

The split for this dragon is very straight forward.

The current production numbers for wave 2 are as follows:

  •  Aureus: Complete (50/50)
  •  Kuxcoatl: Complete (69/69)
  •  Sivax: Complete (44/44)
  •  Nixis: Pending (0/47)
  •  Baastherox: Complete (78/78)

Covid19 has also impacted our capacity to receive materials from our supplier so we are waiting for our resin and silicone order to start Nixis cast. The master print for Nixis is in progress and is expected to be finished this week. Here's a picture of a couple of pieces –cleanup and sanding of the pieces is pending in the following picture.

Nixis will be one of the most challenging resin casts but we are ready for the challenge.

Meanwhile, our team has also been reviewing the pieces for quality control and packaging. Take a look.

We will keep you updated about the progress for Wave 2 in the coming updates. We are thankful for your patience and understanding.

Art prints for the remaining dragons are currently being printed. Luckily, our chosen printing factory has resumed activities so we expect this to be ready soon; backers in the Art Prints only reward tier shall receive their prints once we start fulfillment for wave 2 in a couple of months.

3D Prints

Meanwhile, we want to share some awesome 3D prints by fellow backers. Take a look at this oversized Nixis by Jase Heuer! It was truly awesome to see all the updates of its progress.

Also, here's the winning submission of Dehrilya's bust painting contest (hosted during the Kickstarter campaign for Legendary Dragons 3D) by Thiago Bahury.

Two months ago, Nick Wiersum also shared with us these anthropomorphic versions of a Kuxcoatl sorcerer, Aureus paladin and Baastherox fighter. Nick customized all of these for a home brew campaign. They are fantastic!

If you have pictures of your painted Dragons of the Red Moon, please share them with us! Feel free to tag us in social media or send them to [email protected]

We can't describe how fulfilling it is for everyone in the team to see all of these dragons painted and assembled!

Dragonbond War Game (coming soon)

Meanwhile, game designers, sculptors, and illustrators have been working in the war game for Dragonbond, which is the next release of the fantasy setting where Dragons of the Red Moon is based.

Our game developers are using Tabletop Simulator to playtest from home in these unusual times.

Kickstarter campaign will be handled by LAIR, our subsidiary company focused on 3D printing. The war game will have a 3D printing release in Q3 2020.

Tom Babbey is art director for Dragonbond and the work he has been doing on the aesthetics of the universe is spectacular. You can follow Tom Babbey on Instagram to see some sneak peeks of the art.

The first armies available in the war game have been developed by Tom and Steve Prescott; if you want more previews, make sure to follow Steve Prescott on Instagram too.

The team is currently working on pose thumbnails prior to sculpts. Here's a preview for that.

Here's a turntable of another unit being sculpted, currently in T-Pose stage:

We are eager to share with you more about the lore and stories for this world that's why the graphic team will be focusing in the World Primer PDF (one of the few pending digital Stretch Goals) so you can immerse yourself in this universe and have a better understanding of the coming previews for the Dragonbond war game.

Thanks again for all your support and understanding!

Remember you can always contact us at [email protected] if you have any questions or need support getting your STL or PDF files.

Kuxcoatl crossover miniature!

Kuxcoatl recreated in the style of Creature Kingdoms!

As you may know, in addition to Dragonbond/Dragons of the Red Moon, we are also the developers behind Eldritch Century and Creature Kingdoms(War for Chicken Island). We partnered with Detestable Games to create the second game from Creature Kingdoms:Dodos Riding Dinos (we changed the theme of a game design they had, previously called MicroKart; based in MarioKart).

Kuxcoatl (which was illustrated by Tom Babbey) was invited as a Kickstarter Exclusive mini for the campaign. Reinvented as Kux & Babbey – the dodos in the game have the same name as the discoverer of the fossil in real life, so Tom kindly agreed to have this dodo named after him as the designer of Kuxcoatl!

This miniature is an add-on and also available in the STL files of Dodos Riding Dinos campaign but it is also offered to all returning backers from Detestable Games, War for Chicken island AND of course you, as the main supporters of Dragons of the Red Moon. So by pledging for a copy of the game you get this exclusive miniature for FREE. Check out the campaign here

With just 2 days being live, the project is already unlocking more minis and components upgrades!

Wave 1 & Wave 2 reminders

We had a successful weekend with our contingency plan to resume production. All Aureus miniatures for wave 2 were completed during the weekend plus the first molds for Baastherox, we will have some pictures of the first Baastherox cast in the next update.

If you are in Wave 1 and haven't received your mini, contact us on [email protected] or by replying to this email so we can offer support! Remember that if you ordered dragons different than Aureus, Kuxcoatl or Sivax, even if you are in Wave 1, you will get your dragons in later waves unless you selected split shipping.

Stay safe!
